How To Keep Dogs Comfortable During Storms and Fireworks

Mary is terrified of loud booms including fireworks and loud storms! We try to avoid loud noises by going somewhere cold during New Years Day and to Canada for Independence Day. But sometimes we can’t avoid it. Here are tips and product recommendations on how to keep your dog comfortable during storms and fireworks.

First, make sure your dog is microchipped and your information is updated with the company and that your dog has a collar with identification and a correct phone number and it is on. This will ensure that if you get separated, you can be reached.

Then, make sure you keep your dog inside and doors secure when you expect loud noises whether a storm is coming or a holiday. This will help ensure that your dog cannot get away from you and creates a safe space.

Finally, distract your dog so the noise isn’t as bothersome. This could be with lots of love, play time, or loud noise. You could play a game, give a massage, or overpower the noise. To overpower the noise, you could turn the TV up, turn on a fan, run your clothes dryer on no heat with tennis balls or shoes, or a white noise machine. This helps your dog not hear or feel the scary noise.

In addition, there are many products available that can help.
